Having a Master’s degree in Functioning and Management of marine ecosystems from the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, I did a first internship in modeling at the Laboratoire d’Océanologie et de Géosciences de Wimereux under the direction of Pr. G. Beaugrand. I did my Master 2 internship in chemical ecology at the Oceanography laboratory of Villefranche under the direction of Pr. R Lemée and Pr. O. Thomas in order to study the competition relations between the toxic benthic dinoflagellate Ostreopsis cf. ovata and a competitive diatom Licmophora paradoxa by a metabolomic approach. I continued my studies with a thesis in marine chemical ecology financed byRead More →
Thomas Burel has a PhD in marine ecology and is an expert in macroalgae. His research activities are currently focused on the functioning of coastal habitats dominated by macrophytes (wrack, kelp, eelgrass and maerl habitats). Within the framework of national and European monitoring, he participates in the evaluation of the ecological status of these ecosystems via the macroalgal component. He also studies the diversity and taxonomy of North Atlantic macroalgae, contributing particularly to the monitoring of non-indigenous species. He particularly encourages this knowledge sharing in the associative framework by organizing seminars and public outings. Since 2017, he teaches general ecology, botany, taxonomy and biostatistics inRead More →
F. Magne successfully fishing a trout in a river in Alsace, around 1950. Family collection. Professor Francis Magne died on May 22, 2014 in Yerres (91) and was born on January 19, 1924 in Paris. He ended his professional career as a teacher/researcher in 1992, at the University P. & M. Curie, directing the laboratory of “Marine Plant Biology” (BVM), created by Professor Jean Feldmann. His parents were small businessmen. In spite of a family environment not oriented towards university studies, F. Magne presents an exemplary career having participated in the three levels of French education: primary, secondary, higher, during a particularly difficult historical period.Read More →
The 8th European Phycology Congress (EPC8), co-organised by Philippe Potin (Station Biologique de Roscoff – SBR) and Solène Connan (LEMAR-IUEM-UBO) under the auspices of the Federation of European Phycological Societies (FEPS) and the French Phycological Society (SPF), was held from 20 to 26 August at Brest Arena. Supported by the Région Bretagne, the Conseil Départemental du Finistère and Brest Métropole, as well as the University of Western Brittany and ISblue, the conference brought together nearly 600 researchers, teacher-researchers, doctoral students and Masters students from 41 countries whose research focuses on algae, whether micro- or macroalgae living in freshwater or marine environments. Plenary presentations took placeRead More →
