SPF Workshops

The annual meeting of the French Phycological Society (#JSPF2025) took place on December 2 and 3, 2025, on the Sorbonne University campus in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN). This latest edition was once again rich in scientific exchanges, featuring 39 oral presentations on various topics (micro- and macroalgae, community ecology, chemical ecology, molecular biology, etc.), visits to the MNHN (e.g., cyanobacteria collection, herbarium/algae collection), and social events (lunch and coffee breaks, gala dinner at the Grande Mosquée de Paris). This year, the SPF workshop will be held at the Station Biologique de Roscoff on 13 and 14 November 2024. The scientific programme (see below) will address the main current issues in fundamental and applied research on micro- and macro-algae. The Station Biologique de Roscoff is a marine biology and ecology research and teaching centre founded by Henri de Lacaze-Duthiers in 1872. On 12 and 13 December 2023, the French Phycological Society held its workshop at the Ifremer station in Sète in the Celimer building, bringing together 42 participants. The scientific programme was wide-ranging, covering microalgae and macroalgae, both freshwater and marine, and encompassing a variety of research disciplines and contexts, from fundamental molecular, cellular and environmental research to applied research. The French Phycological Society workshop was held at Ifremer Nantes on 6 and 7 December 2022. 57 members of the Society attended 2 invited oral presentations (“Ecophysiology of polar phytoplankton” by Thomas Lacour and “Metabolic coevolution in brown algae: the example of interactions between Laminariales and endophytic Ectocarpales” by Gabriel Markov) and 21 oral presentations.
